On April 04, 2007, at Melia Hanoi Hotel, Truong Hai Group and Kia Motors Corporation officially signed an agreement to open a new development phase for Kia passenger cars in Vietnam market with the establishment of Thaco Kia Company. In June 2007, the construction of an initial 35-ha factory specializing in manufacturing and assembling Kia passenger cars was officially launched by Truong Hai Group at Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in Quang Nam. This factory, equipped with the most modern production technology in its field, was considered the pioneer in Vietnam’s passenger car industry.

In April 2008, the first domestically-assembled model of passenger car, Kia New Morning, made it debut in Vietnam’s market, following with the appearance of an all-new and luxury New Carens in CKD version. With strict technical standards of European and the cooperation of Kia Motors’ experts, Thaco Kia’s products always meet the highest requirements on quality of Hyundai Kia Corporation.

Thaco Kia provides a variety of products raging from compact model like New Morning; sedan cars like New Cerato, Rio, Optima, Opirus; five-door sedans (compact MPV) like New Carens, Carnival to Sport utility vehicle like Sorento.

Currently, Thaco Kia factory takes the lead in the manufacturing and assembling technology as compared with others in the area and owns a nationwide distribution network. With the annual average growth rate of over 120%, Thaco Kia took the great honor to be selected as Asia Pacific’s fastest developing manufacturer and distributor by Kia Motors in May 2009.
